Special groups have been convened at St. Luke to give strategic direction to church services, operations, and events:

Council President, Brad Bolinger

Brad has been a practicing attorney in Chambersburg since 1985.  He enjoys rooting for the Boston Red Sox and cooking on his “Big Green Egg.”  His favorite Bible verse is Philippians 2: 3-4 – “Don’t be selfish, don’t try to impress others.  Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.  Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”

Brad serves as the Head of the Personnel Committee.

Council Vice President, Richard Foster

Dick has been a member of St. Luke for 19 years. In his working life, he was a Civil-Environmental engineer designing and constructing water supply facilities around the world. His hobbies are maps, travel, and volunteer activities in Franklin County. He has served and is serving on many committees at St. Luke. His favorite Bible verse is the 23rd Psalm.

Dick serves as our liaison to the Stewardship Committee.

Council Secretary, JoAnn Wildeson

JoAnn is retired.  She likes birdwatching, flower gardening and crafts. Her favorite Bible verse is “For God so loved the world He gave His only Son. And whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

JoAnn serves as our liaison to the Outreach Committee.

Council Member, Sue Purnell

Sue is a Speech-Language Pathologist.  She enjoys scrapbooking and camping in her free time.  Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 –  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Sue serves as our liaison to the Family & Youth Committee.

Council Member, Jodi Forrester

In 1989, Jodi “retired” from the USDA to be a stay at home mom and work part time for the family business. She enjoys spending time with her family and her granddaughter, Lennon. Her favorite Bible verse is Psalm 46:1  “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.”

Jodi serves as the liaison to our Finance Committee.

Council Member, Charles Davies

Charles was born in Wales and emigrated to Canada with his parents and two brothers when he was six. He went on the mission field with Mercy Ships when he was 23 and loved it so much he went back to college to get a Navigation ship’s officers license.  Not only did he fall in love with God’s work on the mission field, he met and fell in love with Shelly (Foster) Davies while serving in El Salvador. They were engaged one year later in Guatemala and were married in Gaithersburg, MD at Good Shepherd Lutheran.  After 18 years of serving on the mission field, Charles, Shelly and their two kids moved to the Chambersburg area.  Charles has a passion for history and enjoys theological debate with Retired Reverend Mike Brendle!

Charles serves as the liaison to the Social Ministry Committee.

Council Member, Joy Shinn

Joy is a Retired High School English teacher. In her free time she enjoys reading, singing, writing, composing poetry and drama.  Her favorite verse is Psalm 46:10 New International Version (NIV) – “He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”” 

Joy serves as our liaison to the Worship & Music Committee.

Council Member, Rodger Vorhauer

Rodger is a retired director of Operations, Planning, and Control from Northrop Grumman Defense Center in Maryland. His hobbies include reading, stained glass, hiking, and travel. His favorite Bible verse is: ISAIAH 26:3 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.”

Rodger serves as the head of our Property Committee.

Council Member, Michael Peters

Michael is an English and Journalism teacher at Shippensburg Area Senior High School. 2023 marks his 27th year as a teacher. He was the former Head Softball Coach at SASHS. He is also the owner of The Inside Scoop, an ice cream shop in Shippensburg, PA. In his free time, he likes to travel, hike, play golf, and run softball camps in the summer.  His favorite Bible verse is Job 5:6: “For hardship does not spring from the soil, nor does trouble sprout from the ground.”

Michael serves as our liaison to the Communications Committee.

Council Member, Velegai Beyan

Velegai was born on January 17,1970 and has two beautiful girls. Her father was a pastor and her mother was a Christian, so she grew up in a Christian home. She was a part of the women’s department serving as an usher in the Lutheran church in Liberia, LCL. She went to school and graduated high school in 1998. Due to the conditions in Liberia, she decided to apply for a Diversity Visa and they were lucky and won. In her free time she likes to cook and clean. She loves making fried rice!

Velegai serves as our liaison to the Fellowship Committee.

Council Member, Susan Pettyjohn

Susan has been a member of St. Luke for over 25 years. She works for Franklin County Housing Authority as a comptroller. She serves as the treasurer for a local organization called Homeless Matters of Franklin County. She also plays wallyball at the local YMCA – it’s volleyball in a racquet ball court. She has three children, Allison, Scott & Stephen.

Her favorite verse is Romans 5:3-5. “We rejoice in our suffering knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.”
